We’re fighting over a tree. It’s dying and will take out this house and the house next to it. It’ll cost x,xxx to take it down and the owners only want to pay $500? Ugh. No.
Ouch! I understand your attitude here, though – you can’t afford to love a house so much that you don’t protect yourself, and pay too much.
Too bad my hubby isn’t in the neighborhood. The guy is an artist with a chain saw.
@scifiknitter - Whoever pruned it last took off all the branches facing away from the house so the tree is house facing heavy. Both firms thought the tree was in distress which was sad and they commented because of the branch removals, the tree was trying to compensate to feed itself by growing with its remaining branches. Over the house. Over the house next door. But there’s evidence of rotting at the trunk and they gave it a year to 18 months so they’re classifying it a hazard.
Sad. Very sad.
@Lenore_Happenstance - So are you thinking of bailing on the property or do you think it’s going to be something that can be dealt with?
we had a 30-year-old gigantic ash tree of doom in our backyard that we paid….wait for it….$500 to have taken down to the nubbin. no cheap labor in your parts? It would have surely killed us had it come down in a storm, so while it’s always sad to lose a tree, better that mofo than us.
@buyit - The firms I called estimated $3000-$4500. I called one last guy who everybody said was THE guy at the best prices. He didn’t get a chance to look at it today. Fingers crossed tomorrow.
@oceanstarr - Bailing if we can’t find a price on the tree removal where I’m not paying 100% it if all the firms estimate it in the thousands of bucks.
